here’s a short run down of the local bands who have/will release some form of recording this year.
i’ve tried to include as many bands as I can think of that have been promoting their releases.

GBG#3

First up is GBG3, the third instalment of the GBG compilation CDs from  Twist Records and Guernsey Arts Commission featuring an array of local talent from a wide variety of genres.
you can read Tom Gerard’s review of this 2 disk compilation here  you can pick up a copy of The album from Kendall’s Guitars and Musique for just £10. I’m told they’re working on an mp3 downloadable version soon.

Thee Jenerators

next up Thee Jenerators new album “Rejeneration” it’s their 4th release as was recorded live at Gizzard Studio in East London by Mr Ed Deegan. there are only 200 copies pressed so if you want a physical copy act fast! you can download mp3 version or buy a physical copy from amazon here

Of empires 

of empires are a new band on the scene with some recognisable faces onboard, they are currently in the studio working on their debut Single ‘I Am The Night’ which will be released on the 31st of May

Dead wing

Dead Wing are in the process of recording their first full length self titled album. the 8 song release is being recorded by Danny Joyce at his personal studio.  there is no date set yet for the release but it won’t be long until there’s an official announcement. but take a listen to the teaser below for a very quick glimpse at what they’ve been working on.

Teaspoonriverneck 

Teaspoon will release their latest album “do it again” this saturday (19/05/2012) with a gig the Thomas De La Rue. Their 9 track album  will be on sale at the event so go and pick up a copy!

Last of the Light Brigade 

‘Floggin’ a dead horse’ this is the second release from Last of the Light Brigade  you can Read all about their time at Sawmills Studio whilst recording the album in the latest issue of Gallery magazine (direct article link here) they will be releasing the album on Friday, 8 June with a gig at The Doghouse.

Tantale

Tantale a currently in the studio working hard on their first album ‘The Known Elements’ at Courtyard Studios in Oxfordshire. the album is produced by Ian Davenport who’s worked with bands such as worked with radiohead, supergrass, stereophonics, 22-20′s etc, there’s still no release date set in stone but their website assures us “you will have the opportunity to use our first record as the soundtrack to your staying up all night whilst watching the results of the US presidential election before falling asleep at some point around” Missouri.” the release will be made up of 12 tracks and available on both cd and as a digital download.

The Crowman

Brutus Stonefist

Brutus Stonefist have been working on their album for some time now and there’s no obvious date set for it’s release but there are a few sample tracks floating around online and a couple of free downloads available. check them out below.

Courage Have Courage

courage have courage are working on their first album with 5 tracks down and another possible 10 still to go they say they’re not rushing anything and it will “take as long as it takes” the’ve been recording in middle farm studios in devon and doing some of their own recording with some extra production/mixing from jordan fish of the band WORSHIP

Rob Hunter

rob hunter is currently work on his second release an EP which has no set release date yet but is dues within the next couple of months. it’s being recorded at the Guernsey college with Alex Corbet and currently still untitled. the 3 song EP plans to be a much darker vibe than the solemn days of summer and will show a new side to Robert J. Hunters sound.  He plans is to release in August in physical and online.

Sugar Slam

sugar slam are currently mixing down their 9 song album, yet to be named. they’ve been recording at the Tardis and it should be ready for the end of summer. check out a rough mix of “Fameless” and the albums track listing below

Autumn Curtis-Summers

harpist Autumn Curtis-Summers has also released an album, recorded locally by an English producer, Limbo Mute back in march and is available at various local outlets including St James, Amelia’s Wardrobe, Guernsey Museums, Castle Cornet, White House Hotel on herm (where she plays each week) and Musique.

Andy Gibbard

Andy Gibbard is also working on a release called “heart” an 8 track album recorded at Earth Terminal Studios in Odiham, Hampshire, the studio has worked with names like Robbie Williams, Guy Chambers, Hope Of The States and another Guernsey-related band ‘Subliminal Girls.’

Engineered, Co-produced & mastered by Lewis Childs @ Earth Terminal.

the digital release will be available to purchase on 25th June, on iTunes and Amazon MP3.
will also be streamable on Spotify, and for U.S customers on the new Google Play store.

Of Empires

of empires made their debut performance at the tav last night and the band brings a new sound to the catalog of bands Jack Fletcher fronts, they’ve got some really tasty riffs and some nice grooves going on with a sound similar to bands like Showbread, Asteroid, they played a very tight debut.

Falenizza Horsepower

FH have their very own band of music and it’s something excellent to behold, big long dawn out builds and metal trance like sounds with looping bass effects and intense beats, the only bands i can liken them to are people like Neurosis and nuculer rabbit whilst this might not be everyone’s cup of tea they got a lot of peoples heads going and filled out the room with people intrigued by the heavy epic sounds.

Black Capsule

this was the first time i’ve had chance to see black capsule and i was impressed by their performance,  their sound reminded me of bands like silversun pickups and Black Rebel Motocycle Club  they played a very professional and mature sounding set and im looking forward to hearing more from them.

Toupé

Toupé are a regular local favourite, and i look forward to seeing them every time they make the trip across the pond. their performance isn’t just about the music, they have amazing audience interaction with their sarcastic and filthy sense of humor, with songs like “JZ’s dick” , “Yo Mamma” and their well known track “Fuckin’ ” you get an idea of what these guys are about. another two piece band with drums and a bass guitar they also have a very distinctive sound, (think Primus, Mr.Bungle, nuculer rabbit etc..) they played considerably well when taking into account they’re a man down and the level of intoxication they appeared to be suffering. the drunken banter with the audience  interrupted their set several times but it’s all part of the Toupé experience.
