Last year Oliver Marson reappeared on the musical scene with Cocaine Romance, a single echoing the sounds of the 1980s with a modern twist, and now he’s back with a follow up, Time For Love.
After an abrupt start it’s no surprise that this continues in the same sonic tradition with some terrific sounding vintage tinged synths and a strong underlying throb of a bass line.
Over this the lyrics are, as the title might suggest, somewhat more in keeping with a more standard singer-songwriter fare, but when placed over the synths rather than an acoustic guitar it’s gives it a rather different spin that makes for a nice change of pace.
As the track reaches its effectively repetitious chorus, its second half builds to a rather satisfying crescendo with a swirling energy that is slower than on Cocaine Romance but just as effective.
Even on just a few first listens Time For Love grows into something of an earworm, though I still can’t quite get away from the feeling that this would have fit in perfectly on Top Of The Pops circa 1982 in another reality.
