Those Fucking Snowflakes - Stop Being Dickheads To Each Other - cover artHaving first heard of Those Fucking Snowflakes (aka Those Snowflakes for the more sensitive and Twitter) thanks to Tom Robinson at BBC Music Introducing Live earlier in the month I instantly vowed to look up their debut single, Stop Being Dickheads To Each Other, and I was not disappointed.

From the off it’s an energising and invigorating blast of scuzzily processed punk marrying new sounds with the old three chords and the truth doctrine to make something totally fresh but in keeping with the work of current acts like IDLES, Sleaford Mods, Fontaines DC or John.

As you’ve probably guessed from the name it doesn’t hold back in its forthright verbiage either, particularly in the chorus that guarantees its original version won’t be getting airplay on the BBC (not only for the language but the exultation to ‘stop voting Tory’) – thankfully they’ve obliged in creating a radio edit that allows greater play while still putting out the same message, if you read between the lines.

In the verses though it finds a powerful poetic repetition that sets out the band’s stall on matters of equality and is just the right kind of forceful.

Sonically it has a harder end indie quality along with the punk reminiscent of Mclusky or Lifejacket while through the serious politicking it has an inherent sense of playfulness that means it should get live crowds going as much as its great to listen to ‘on record’.

With a video baiting both Theresa May and Boris Johnson in equal measure Those Fucking Snowflakes have launched out the gate with a must hear debut single that’s up there with the best I’ve heard this year and I’m looking forward to see where they go next.
