Hot on the heels of their debut single Stop Being Dickheads To Each Other, Blackpool post rock trio Those Fucking Snowflakes are back with their debut EP, U Ok Hun?
Things begin with the aforementioned single that I’ve already discussed elsewhere (read that by clicking here) and then continue with the equally brilliantly named Vegan Sausage Rolls VS Gammon Faced Vampires.
This largely continues where Dickheads left off but ups the math rock oddness while getting a bit more specific in its subject and targets, explicitly name checking Piers Morgan and going into the well publicised issues he had with a nationwide chain of bakers and the titular pastry product.
Of course it’s not just about that as it goes deeper into the whole idea of constructed and petty ‘outrage’ in the media and, while its maybe a little less out right raging musically than the opening track, it doesn’t lose anything for that.
Hellions On The Sand then takes things in a slightly different direction starting in far slower and heavier fashion gradually building in ferocity and pace.
As well as being musically different it takes on a far more personal outlook and subject dealing with anxiety and depression making a good change of pace after two rather similar tracks.
Things then round off with Fuck The Fucking Man, which takes things back to the style of the opener somewhat both in subject and title. That said its subject is somewhat more general with the band again mixing more of the expansive math rock into the post punk kind of sound.
While Dickheads acts as tremendous clarion call for both the band and the EP, U Ok Hun? shows something more from Those Fucking Snowflakes with the three further tracks more than ably backing up the attention grabbing opener and confirming them as a band to watch heading into 2020.
