Hot off the heels of their debut EP, The Only Way Is Lost, released a matter of day before Christmas, teenage trio Track Not Found return with a new single to help mark Record Store Day, Science (Gone Wrong).

While releasing a digital only single to mark Record Store Day seems somewhat at odds with the spirit of that event, that’s by the wayside as the song is another great example of the young band making their mark and setting out their sound.

Opening with a fuzzed up version of a nice indie rock bass line from Maisie Bisson, Grace Tayler’s distinctive vocals and angular, overdriven guitars soon kick in, with a nice rolling rhythm from Emma Thomas’ drums, to give us their most emo offering yet (definitely in a good way).

A recent article in local newspaper The Guernsey Press questioned ‘what ever happened to emo?’ and I think here Track Not Found prove that, like other styles labels as fads of the past, it never really went away.

They have rediscovered and reinvented it in their own fashion drawing strongly from the likes of My Chemical Romance’s Teenagers from The Black Parade album, while adding their own, heavier spin in the background.

This makes Science (Gone Wrong) perfect for bouncing and shouting along to when played live but with enough extra to get it caught in your head on ‘record’ and, with UK shows and a debut album in the pipeline, this feels like another great step forward for Track Not Found.
