Last Of The Light Brigade - The Brink - artworkWhen they released Last Laugh in 2014, despite the title, I’m not sure anyone thought it would be the swan song for indie rockers Last Of The Light Brigade.

As their gigs (away from the wedding band circuit) became fewer and further between though, and the individual members pursued other interests (with quite some success) it seemed like that might be the case — and then, just a couple of weeks ago, out of the blue they announced a new single, The Brink.

Not only are the band back with a new single, and the suggestion of an album, they’re also back with their ‘classic’ line up of Tyler Edmonds (guitar and vocals), Ben Queripel (bass) and Stu Carre (drums) — with a little help on the record from producer Mikey Ferbrache of Apocalypse Studios.

Starting in quieter and more atmospheric fashion The Brink soon grows into a driving slice of radio friendly indie rock, continuing where the band left off with the likes of Stimulator on Last Laugh combining hints of US bands like The Killers with the band’s earlier influences from the British indie scene like Kaiser Chiefs.

It’s clear from the sound that the band haven’t missed a beat with Ben and Stu providing the rock solid foundation on which Tyler brings an extra level of guitar work than we’ve heard previously along with his characteristic voice that gives the track an edge that still suggests their mod roots without going too far.

The Brink then is a fine return for Last Of The Light Brigade developing on where they left off half a decade ago that should find them new fans as well as reminding older ones what they liked some much first time round.

On top of that it hints at good things to come and its great to hear them making new music after it felt like they were somewhat cut off in their prime last time round.
